Equine Reiki
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing modality that supports a horse’s nervous system, emotional regulation, and overall sense of ease in their body. I use Reiki as part of a whole-horse approach, and I love it because it can be calming and supportive for horses who are sensitive, stressed, reactive, shut down, or simply “holding a lot.”
Reiki is not a replacement for veterinary care. It is a supportive modality that can work alongside your horse’s training plan, veterinary team, bodywork, dentistry, and saddle/bit considerations.
Equine Reiki is a form of energy work that supports relaxation, pain relief, and nervous system regulation in horses. I offer Reiki for horses in South Carolina and Georgia, both in person and through distance sessions.

Spotted Horse LLC was founded to support horses through a whole-horse approach that blends science, practical experience, and thoughtful observation of the horse in front of us.
I’m Chloe Johnson, an equine bodyworker, bit fitter, and Reiki practitioner. My work focuses on helping horses move more comfortably, regulate their nervous systems, and communicate more clearly through their bodies.
Over time, I realized that many physical issues cannot be separated from stress, tension, or emotional patterns horses carry. That realization is what led me to integrate Reiki alongside bodywork and bit fitting. By supporting both the physical and nervous system aspects of the horse, we often see deeper and longer-lasting changes.
My goal is always the same: help horses feel better in their bodies so they can move, learn, and perform with more ease.

At Spotted Horse LLC, we believe horses do best when we look at the whole picture rather than a single technique or modality.
Our approach combines:
• biomechanics and anatomy
• practical horsemanship and training insight
• nervous system regulation
• supportive modalities like Reiki and bodyworkRather than being tied to one philosophy, we stay curious and open to learning from many fields. Every horse is different, and the most effective approach often comes from blending multiple perspectives.
Reiki is one piece of that puzzle. It helps horses settle, process stress, and soften tension patterns that sometimes persist even after physical work is addressed.
When horses feel safe enough to relax their nervous systems, they often move differently, learn more easily, and show us clearer feedback about what they need.
-
We work with horses and owners who want to better understand what their horses are telling them through their bodies and behavior.
This includes:
• performance horses
• pleasure and trail horses
• sensitive or reactive horses
• horses recovering from stress, injury, or life changes
• horses struggling with tension, shutdown, or inconsistent behaviorMany of the horses we see are already working with veterinarians, trainers, saddle fitters, and dental professionals. Our role is to support that team by helping the horse feel more comfortable and regulated in their body.
Owners who resonate with this work are usually people who want to listen more closely to their horse, explore supportive options, and take a thoughtful approach to their horse’s well-being.
So Reiki… For Horses?
How Reiki Works for Horses
Reiki is often described as supporting the body’s natural ability to return to balance. Practically speaking, what I see most often is this:
A horse who feels safer in their body settles more easily
A calmer nervous system can improve processing, learning, and recovery
Relaxation can reduce defensive tension patterns over time
Reiki is especially useful for horses who are “stuck” in fight/flight/freeze patterns, have a history of stress, or are sensitive to touch.
Signs a Horse May Benefit From Reiki
Reiki can be a great fit if your horse:
is anxious, reactive, or easily overwhelmed
feels shut down, dulled, or “not present”
struggles with nervousness around riding, trailering, clipping, vet/farrier, or new environments
has a history of trauma, ulcers, chronic stress, or inconsistent behavior
has tension that returns quickly after training or bodywork
is rehabbing, resting, or needs support while workload is limited
If you’re unsure, I’m happy to help you decide whether Reiki is the right next step or if another support should come first.
What Happens During a Session
A session is quiet, low-pressure, and horse-led.
Your horse can be in a stall, paddock, or safe area
I start by observing, grounding, and checking in with your horse’s body language
Reiki can be hands-on or hands-off depending on the horse’s preference
Sessions often include time for the horse to process and release
Many horses show relaxation signs (yawning, blinking, sighing, softening, shifting weight)
Some horses want stillness. Others want to move. We work with what your horse offers.
Virtual (Distance) Reiki for Horses
Reiki can also be offered remotely, allowing your horse to receive a session while remaining in their own familiar environment.
Many horses actually relax more easily this way, since they are not adjusting to a new person physically being present in their space.
During a distance session, I connect with your horse intentionally at a scheduled time and focus the session just as I would during an in-person appointment. The goal remains the same: encouraging relaxation, supporting the nervous system, and allowing the horse space to release tension.
Distance Reiki can be a helpful option when:
• your horse lives outside my travel area
• your horse is sensitive to new people
• your horse is on stall rest or rehab
• you want consistent support between in-person sessions
• travel, scheduling, or distance makes in-person work difficult
After the session, you’ll receive a short summary of what I observed and any patterns or responses your horse showed during the work.
Many owners report noticing signs of relaxation during or shortly after the session such as yawning, resting, softening of posture, or a calmer demeanor.
Distance sessions are designed to support your horse in a quiet, low-pressure way while allowing them to remain comfortable in their normal environment.

Why Learn Reiki for Horses?
Many people are drawn to Reiki because they want a way to support horses that goes beyond training, tack, or physical adjustments.
Horses are incredibly sensitive animals. They respond to the emotional environment around them, to stress in their bodies, and to the energy of the people working with them. Reiki provides a quiet, structured way to meet horses in that space.
For many owners and professionals, learning Reiki becomes a tool for:
• helping anxious or sensitive horses settle
• supporting horses through transitions, illness, or recovery
• building trust with horses that have experienced stress or trauma
• creating a calmer environment during handling, training, or bodywork
• deepening awareness of what horses are communicating through their behavior and body language
Many students find that once they begin practicing Reiki, they start noticing subtle shifts in their horses…softer expressions, deeper relaxation, clearer communication, and a greater sense of connection.
For some, Reiki becomes a personal practice they use quietly with their own horses. For others, it becomes a meaningful addition to their work with clients and the horses they serve.
Either way, the goal is the same: helping horses feel safer, calmer, and more comfortable in their bodies.
