Virtual Reiki for Horse Owners: You Deserve Support, Too
Horse owners are very good at noticing when their horse needs something.
We notice the change in their expression, the tightness through their body, the shift in their appetite, or the moment they simply do not feel like themselves. We call the vet, change the feed, schedule the bodywork, check the saddle, and rearrange our entire week to make sure they are okay.
But how often do we give ourselves that same level of care?
That is one of the reasons I offer virtual Reiki sessions for people, especially horse owners. You spend so much time caring for your horse, managing the barn, balancing work and home, and trying to make the best decisions possible. Sometimes you need a space where nothing is being asked of you and you are the one receiving support.
What Is Virtual Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle form of energy work intended to support relaxation, grounding, and overall well-being. A virtual Reiki session—also called distance Reiki or online Reiki—allows you to receive that support without being in the same physical room as the practitioner.
Energy work does not require physical touch, which means the session can take place while you are comfortable at home. We connect virtually, talk briefly about how you have been feeling and what you would like support with, and then move into the Reiki portion of the session.
You do not have to understand energy work or know how to meditate. You do not have to “do” anything perfectly. Your only job is to get comfortable and allow yourself to receive.
Why Horse Owners May Benefit From Reiki
Owning and caring for horses can be deeply rewarding, but it can also carry a lot of emotional weight.
There are feeding decisions, soundness concerns, training struggles, financial pressure, barn dynamics, emergencies, and the constant question of whether you are doing enough. When your horse has a chronic issue or is in rehabilitation, it can feel like your mind never fully shuts off.
A virtual Reiki session creates intentional space to slow down. Horse owners may choose Reiki when they are:
Feeling mentally or emotionally drained
Carrying stress about their horse’s health or behavior
Moving through a difficult barn situation
Supporting a horse through rehabilitation or retirement
Grieving a horse or preparing for an end-of-life decision
Feeling disconnected from themselves
Simply needing rest without another task attached to it
Reiki does not replace medical care, mental health care, or veterinary care. It can be used alongside the other forms of support you already trust.
Your Energy Matters in the Partnership
Horses are incredibly responsive to the world around them. As owners, we often focus so much on helping the horse regulate, relax, and feel safe that we forget we are part of the relationship, too.
This does not mean you have to be completely calm every time you enter the barn. You are human, and your horse does not need you to be perfect. But making time to care for your own nervous system, emotions, and energy can help you feel more present in your body and more aware of what you are bringing into the space.
The goal is not to blame yourself for your horse’s tension or behavior. The goal is to give you support as a whole person—not only as the one responsible for everyone else.
What Happens During an Online Reiki Session?
Before we begin, we will connect virtually and talk about what has been going on in your life. You can share as much or as little as you would like. Some people come into a session with a clear intention, while others simply know they feel tired, overwhelmed, or “off.” Both are completely okay.
During the Reiki portion, you can lie down, sit somewhere comfortable, close your eyes, listen to calming music, or simply rest. Because the session is virtual, you can stay in your own familiar space without driving anywhere afterward.
People experience Reiki differently. You may notice warmth, tingling, emotion, deep relaxation, mental quiet, or no dramatic sensation at all. There is no correct way to experience a session, and a session does not have to feel intense to be meaningful.
Afterward, we will reconnect and talk about anything you noticed. I may also share general impressions from the session while keeping the conversation grounded and leaving space for your own interpretation.
Do I Need to Be “Spiritual” for Reiki?
No. You do not need to follow a particular religion, have experience with energy work, or hold a certain set of beliefs to book a Reiki session.
My own work blends science and spirit. I believe we can respect evidence-based healthcare while also making room for practices that help us slow down, reconnect, and care for ourselves in a different way. Reiki is not about asking you to abandon one for the other.
Can My Horse Be With Me During the Session?
Yes, if that feels comfortable and safe. You may choose to receive your session inside your home, at the barn, or somewhere quiet while your horse is nearby. Your session is still focused on you, but you are welcome to choose the setting that helps you feel most at ease.
You can also schedule separate Reiki support for your horse if that is what you are looking for. Human virtual Reiki and equine Reiki have different intentions, so we can decide which type of session best fits your needs.
Virtual Reiki From Wherever You Are
I am based in Bluffton, South Carolina, and work in person with horses and their owners throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina and coastal Georgia. Virtual Reiki allows me to support people well beyond my usual travel area.
Whether you are ten minutes away or several states away, you can receive a session from a place where you already feel comfortable. (Personally, I lay in bed when i get Reiki!)
You take care of your horse in a hundred small ways every day. You deserve a little of that care, too.
